The historic neighborhoods of Grant Park and Summerhill, southeast of downtown Atlanta, feature tree-lined streets filled with lovely old bungalows, craftsman-style homes, and late-era Victorian mansions. Grant Park includes two major city attractions in historic Oakland Cemetery and Zoo Atlanta, too. Summerhill has deep roots in the African American and Jewish communities in Atlanta. The area was first established in 1865 by freed slaves and Jewish immigrants. Then, in 1996, the neighborhood became the epicenter of the world when the summer Olympics came to town, gathering in the stadium which later became the home of Braves baseball, and now the Georgia State University Panthers. Restaurants in these neighborhoods serve as gathering spots for residents and include some of the city’s hottest dining establishments, most of which offer takeout and delivery.
