Athens-based Maepole, a quick-service cross between a Southern meat and three and build-your-own bowl restaurant, is now open on Georgia Avenue in Summerhill.

Located in a newly built retail strip across from Wood’s Chapel BBQ, chef Peter Dale (the National, Condor Chocolates, Seabear Oyster Bar), Michael Clancy, and Nathan Goodman say they were drawn to the character of Summerhill and its resemblance to Athens.

“We chose Summerhill because it reminds us of Athens. We love to proximity to lots of residential neighborhoods, universities, and the downtown business community,” Clancy tells Eater. “The more time we spend here, the more we fall in love with Summerhill and Grant Park.”

Like Maepole in Athens, people build their own bowls or plates by choosing a base such as brown rice or super greens, followed by two sides like mac and cheese or roasted vegetables, and finally a meat or vegan protein, before topping with a sauce. The menu also features fully composed seasonal plates created by Dale as well as chocolate bars from Condor.
