Atlanta restaurants and bars cannot offer dine-in service amid the coronavirus pandemic, but now they can sell alcohol to go.

One day after the city of Atlanta mandated that restaurants be limited to take-out and delivery, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has signed an executive order that directs the Atlanta Police Department “to refrain from taking any action to enforce any prohibitions against the sale of unopened wine and/or malt beverages by the package for off-premises consumption.”

Open containers and liquor are not included. The order is set to run for 60 days.

Atlanta’s restaurant industry is being decimated by fallout related to the COVID-19 outbreak. Prior to Bottoms’ latest executive order, most establishments in the city already had altered their business models to offer take-out and/or delivery service, and some had closed down altogether.
