A New Summerhill Sandwich Counter Hopes to Create a ‘Signature’ Atlanta Sandwich

A new sandwich counter called How Crispy Express opens early next year along Georgia Avenue’s emerging restaurant row in Summerhill. The walk-up window sandwich joint is apparently the first in-town collaboration from Benumkermi Hospitality Syndicate, which includes Ticonderoga Club’s Greg Best and Bart Sasso, chef William Silbernagel (The Bookhouse Pub, Argosy), and Atlanta architect Luke Wilkinson.

The sandwich counter resides next to Wood’s Chapel BBQ and Junior’s Pizza. In addition to the walk-up window, How Crispy Express offers “limited barstool seating” at its front window and on the “open-air patio.”

“Atlanta has a real passion for eating great food, but as of yet, we don’t have a signature sandwich such as a Philly Cheese Steak or a Kentucky Hot Brown to call our own. We hope to fix that,” Best says in the press release. “After spending time on Georgia Avenue with the Carter [Summerhill developers] team, we knew this would be the perfect location to open How Crispy Express, and we look forward to becoming a sought-after destination in Atlanta.”

It seems the group may already be working on a “signature” sandwich called the Lil’ Buddy, which will also be served at the window inside Halfway Crooks Beer across the street.
